"Talbot's best guess is that Jackson's original trek to the valley under the Teton Range was in 1825. He spent enough time here that around 1829 fellow trader and trapper Sublette dubbed the valley "Jackson's Hole." Early on, the region's name was actually "Jackson's Big Hole."
